Overview
Ghana’s diamond production has registered an increase for the first time in many years, with the largest producer, state owned Ghana Consolidated Diamonds (GCD), reporting an increase to 197 000ct in 2001. Including artisinal and recorded diamond production, Ghana’s total diamond production reached just over 1.1 Mct in 2001. Negotiations regarding the takeover of GCD’s Akwatia mine near Teberebie continue. The eastern parts of Ghana remain prospective for diamonds.
