Central African Republic – Mining Industry

Overview

The diamond mining industry contributes 40% of export earnings, making it one of the world’s major producers. Production is more than half a million carats per annum of which about half is of gem quality. Gold is also mined. However, smuggling is a problem for both the diamond and the gold industries.
