The Petrangol refinery located on the outskirts of Luanda, is a topping and reforming refinery with a nameplate distillation capacity of 39,000 barrels per day. The plant was originally built in the late 1950’s and is old and in poor condition; as a result it is not economically viable. The refinery is owned by the Angolan government (36%) and Fina Petroleos de Angola, a subsidiary of Petrofina S.A. (61%). Fina operates the refinery which is the sole source of supply to Angola. The refinery processes local Angolan crdues from mainly Kwanza and Palanca, for the domestic market. It also produces surpluses of fuel oil, gas oil and jet oil for export to neighbouring countries. There are plans to upgrade the refinery. |
